In today’s video, Ken from FST Performance Carburetors shows us how to install and tune an FST Billet X-Treme Series carb on a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle.
The Chevelle already had an aftermarket overdrive electronic transmission installed, which made the carburetor installation a little unique.
Watch the video to see how to install and tune these high performance FST carburetors, all of which are run on engines at the FST facility and dialed in with adjusted floats right out of the box.
You’ll see in the video that the engine was running a little rich after the initial start up. Ken adjusts the primaries and idle to compensate for an aggressive camshaft, and we’re left with a rumbling Chevelle that pretty much all of us would want to drive.

I haven’t had the opportunity to work with a FST carburetor yet but it most certainly will be an improvement over the one it replaced in the video.
The video was pretty good but it needs more specific details about this particular carburetors flow capacity and if any contour work was done in the throttle bores, Venturi and jet sizes, the type of metal used for construction and if any components are CNC billet alloy along with the booster type used. In other words a rundown of all the variables found with many typical aftermarket carburetors.
Details about the engine/vehicle combination used for testing this carb aren’t all that important since it’s just another common SBC but a real world test drive to convince me of why I need this FST carburetor would have been like icing on the cake.
