Three of the tightest votes in Muscle Car Match-Ups’ rich history just happened in the previous round, and two of those tight votes were produced by the same match-up.

Because we had to do it twice.

Philosophers have spent centuries mulling over the age-old question: “What would happen if we had two 1968 Hemi Mopars in an imaginary race where the winner was determined by random people’s votes on the internet?”

We finally have an answer.

We had to conduct a second vote between the ’68 Hemi Dart and ’68 Plymouth Barracuda Hemi 426 because it was mathematically impossible to determine the winner of the first match-up after more than 4,100 votes.

This is the 2019 Muscle Car Match-Ups (The “Limited Edition” Edition) where we are pitting some of the rarest and most legendary muscle cars ever built against each other in our imaginary fantasy tournament because we can.

It’s up to you to decide which car will win the tournament—Check out the intro article and see how the voting is done here.

On to the Final Four.

Final Four OnAllCylinders Muscle Car Match-Ups: The “Limited Edition” Edition

1970 Chevy Chevelle LS6 vs. 1970 Plymouth Superbird

The ’70 Chevelle vs. ’70 Boss 429 match-up was significant.

While much is being made of the parity between the ’68 Hemi Mopars, let the record show that the Chevelle and Boss Mustang BOTH received 1,000 votes more each than the first Hemi Mopar match-up did in total.

That’s not a small thing. More than 7,500 votes were cast in the classic Ford-Chevy match-up, with the Instagram vote swinging the advantage in favor of the Chevelle. (The Instagram tallies were 1,376 for the Chevelle, and 775 for the Boss 429.)

Round 2 Facebook voting results:

Farewell, Boss 9. We still think you’re the most beautifully sculpted thing with four wheels that we’ve ever seen.

Even though Pontiacs have always been wildly popular with the OnAllCylinders audience, and even though the ’73 Trans Am Super Duty 455 is an all-timer, it didn’t have much for the most uniquely designed American muscle car—the ’70 Plymouth Superbird.

After trouncing the Corvette L-88 in Round 1, the nose-coned assassin also made quick work of the SD 455 to speed into our Final Four.

Round 2 Facebook voting results:

In one corner, we have the 1970 Chevy Chevelle LS6, and in the other we have the 1970 Plymouth Superbird.

Only one can race for the championship. The choice is yours.

1968 Dodge Hemi Dart vs. 1969 Chevy COPO Camaro ZL1

For the first time in Muscle Car Match-Ups history, we had to go to overtime for a re-vote because the ’68 Hemi Mopar match-up between the Dart and Barracuda created more parity and split opinions than any previous match-up on record.

The first round was literally too close to call due to the way Facebook rounds numbers over 1,000. The Dart won by such a narrow margin (after combining Facebook and Instagram votes), that we couldn’t prove it, given the slim margin favoring the Barracuda on Facebook.

So we made the decision to put it out for a second vote, because integrity is important to us. Especially considering the gravity of the moment, where imaginary winners of a totally made-up internet muscle car tournament is on the line. Here’s what happened the second time.

Round 2 Facebook re-vote results:

Because fewer than 1,000 votes were tallied, we were able to see specific numbers this time instead of something like “1.3K.”

The Hemi Barracuda won the Facebook re-vote by 10. 849 to 839.

But, similar to first time we tried, Instagram swung it the other way. The Instagram vote favored the Dart 1,633 to the Barracuda’s 1,575.

Yesterday, the Dart won by 47 votes in our too-close-call tally.

Today, we can be certain that it won by 48 votes.

Feels like providence to us. Farewell, Hemi Barracuda. You provided more fun than we imagined a vehicle that we can’t see or drive ever could.

The 1969 COPO Camaro ZL1 enters the Final Four with much less drama and fanfare. It defeated its GM counterpart, the ’70 Buick GSX Stage 1, which is one of the coolest, rarest, muscly-est cars we know of.

Round 2 Facebook voting results:

The COPO Camaro ZL1 has been very business-like, quietly going about its business during this 2019 Muscle Car Match-Ups tournament. Things could get a little nosier as it prepares to face the ’68 Hemi Dart.

The ’69 COPO Camaro ZL1 and ’68 Hemi Dart are both legendary examples of power-to-weight ratios turning Detroit steel into horsepowered missiles.

And we’re now faced with the unpleasant task of sending one home.
