Get Ready to Vote in the 10th Anniversary OnAllCylinders Muscle Car Match-Ups Tournament of Champions

Your favorite automotive blog turns 10 years old in 2022 and one of the ways we’re celebrating is with our annual Muscle Car Match-Ups bracket-style car/truck tournament.

This time around, we’ve gone through and picked the winners of each year’s competition going back the past decade and pitted them against each other in a no-holds-barred Tournament of Champions.

And you get to pick the ultimate winner, using whatever criteria you like—style, performance, innovation, whatever. It’s all fair game and we can’t wait to see the results. (Oh, and spoiler alert, not all of the vehicles are muscle cars either!)

Ding Ding! Let’s keep it clean, now come out voting!

How to Vote in the Muscle Car Match-Ups Tournament of Champions

It’s an eight-vehicle bracket, and we’ll break down each first round match-up below. You can vote for each round’s winners in one of three ways:

We’ll tally up all the votes by the end of the weekend, then present you with the next round of Match-Ups the following Monday.

Round 1: 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 vs. 1973 Chevy C/K Series

Here’s a battle between our very first Muscle Car Match-Ups winner and last year’s Truck Tournament victor. And the pairing couldn’t be more disparate: on one end you’ve got a rip snortin’, purpose-built sports car and on the other, you’ve got a trusty pickup truck that’s about as beloved as blue jeans and some Credence tapes.

Round 1: 1969 Dodge Charger R/T vs. 1969 Yenko Nova

Following in the Shelby’s footsteps for the Match-Ups’ 2014 sophomore year was the 1969 Yenko Nova. Then, in 2020, we pitted “Old School versus New School” and the 1969 Charger triumphed over them all. This one could be a true toss-up, as both of these monsters hearken back to 1969, a year that many consider the high-water mark for the golden age of Detroit muscle.

Round 1: 1968 Plymouth GTX 426 Hemi vs. 1970 Chevy Chevelle 454 SS

We knew it was only a matter of time before a Chevelle was declared the victor in one of our tournaments, and we saw it in 2016. Then in 2018, the Muscle Car Match-Ups were full of upsets and underdogs, before the GTX finally emerged as the champ.

It’s often said that, back in the day, the Chevelle 454 was one of the few cars that could make Hemi owners nervous—let’s see if the voting bears that out.

Round 1: 1970 Plymouth Superbird vs. 1970 Buick GSX 455

We were excited to see the under-the-radar GSX pull a Buster Douglas and come out swinging in 2015. But the Buick may have its hands…err…gloves…err…wheels full when toeing up against Plymouth’s NASCAR homologation special that trounced the competition in 2019. Will the underdog score another KO? That’s your decision to make.
