Released in both the Mustang and Ford F-150 pickup truck in 2011, the Ford Coyote 5.0L V8 quickly earned a legion of fans thanks to its durability and performance.
And after a mild update in 2015, the stage was set for a third generation Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 to launch in 2018—which brought port fuel injection and a unique engine block to the Mustang and F-150 party. It’s important to note here too, that the third-gen Mustang and truck Coyotes still had some key differences, with the F-150 maintaining its flex fuel/E85 capability.
So that’s the engine we’re featuring here: the third generation, direct injection Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 found in the 2018+ Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Where are the engine head casting numbers located on the heads? I have a 2020 ford f150 with the 5.0 liter gen 3 engine.
They’re on the back (rear) of each head.
Check out this pic of an aftermarket Ford Performance Gen. 3 Coyote Cylinder head. While this is an aftermarket part and won’t carry stock casting numbers, hopefully this’ll give you a good idea of what the casting IDs look like:
On 2018 5L gen 3 engine, some had oil passage issue from the factory.
After some research on cylinder bore Plasma coating, I decided the Bores might be incorrectly coated resulting in excessive Porosity. This would hold excessive oil on the bores the Ring Pak could not handle.
I took a chance on using Moly M0S2 as an oil additive to fill in the Porosity after given some operational time.
IT WORKED!
Good luck to those who try it.
It won’t hurt the engine and will benefit by lowering friction and supply extra Cushion to noisy parts clearance operation, reducing general noise level.
My wife’s 2008 Expedition with 5.4 engine, just was diagnosed with timing chain issues, resulting in coding all the time – it has 185,000, and deemed not worth fixing.
So my question is, can I buy a 5.0 Coyote engine for it and have it mate up to the existing transmission, rebuilt 2 years ago ?!?
