Few digits stir up as much excitement in the Blue Oval faithful as the numbers five and zero. So when Ford decided to shove its new five liter 32-valve DOHC V8 “Coyote” engine in the S197 Mustang in 2011, you can bet the 5.0 fender emblem came along with it.

Yet with dual overhead cams, twin-independent variable cam timing, and a host of other 21st-century features, the new 5.0L Coyote has little in common with that original 302ci/5.0L Windsor-derived engine. In fact, the 5.0L Coyote is even quite distinct from the Ford 4.6L Modular V8 that it replaced.

You should also know that the Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 has had a few generational evolutions as well. Perhaps more importantly, the engine came in two basic flavors: there was a Coyote “Car” engine and a Coyote “Truck” engine.

The Summit Racing engine experts pored over every bit of Ford 5.0L Coyote technical data they could find, and compiled all the specs and data into handy Coyote engine spec guides. (Special Hat Tip to Summit Racing’s John Jones, Gary Vicich, and Matt Strebler for their hard work in collecting and organizing this vital information.)

In this Coyote engine spec guide, we’re talking about the first appearance of the Coyote 5.0L V8 in the 2011 Ford Mustang, where the first-generation “car” Coyote ran from 2011-14.
