For the past few weeks, we’ve been telling you about Summit Racing’s Project Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Rubicon build series. The Summit Racing crew is incrementally upgrading the Wrangler’s off-road capability while keeping its daily-driven practicality primarily in mind.

Obviously a big part of that practicality is making sure you’re able to bring along a spare tire .

But what a lot of folks don’t realize, is that if you increase your tire and wheel sizing to, say, 35s, 37s, and beyond then the factory Jeep Wrangler swing-out tire carrier on the tailgate may not be able to handle the extra weight. (Click here for more details on the exact wheel and tire setup the Jeep’s running.)

So in addition to bolting-up a dang-near bulletproof AEV Conversions JL Rear Bumper, the Summit Racing folks are installing the complementing JL RX Rear Bumper Tire Carrier too.

Check out the install below and you’ll see how rugged and durable the whole setup is.
