Ignition Timing 101: Vacuum Advance vs. Mechanical Advance

What’s the difference between vacuum advance and mechanical advance? Why do you need ignition advance in the first place? And can you really use vacuum advance in boosted applications?

  1. Why don’t you make a distributor that fits Ford flatheads, 1942-1946 that fits, I ordered one you mfg. from Speedway had to return it, and pay return shipping because it does not fit with the original belts and generator it is just way too tall.
