Q: I am rebuilding a 350 Chevy V8 for my daily driven 1991 S-10 pickup. I want to purchase moly rings for the stock flat top pistons, Clevite 77 rod and main bearings, a high-volume oil pump, COMP Cams Xtreme 4×4 cam and lifter kit (CCA-12-235-2), matching valve springs, COMP Cams pushrods, Milodon timing chain set, GM Performance Parts Vortec cylinder heads, roller rocker arms, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, and a Demon Carburetion Street Demon 625 cfm carb.
The redline of this engine will be 5,000 rpm. Before I order, can you tell me if the parts I’ve chosen will work together?
The engine will be bolted to a Turbo 350 transmission with a TCI overhaul kit and a Summit 12” torque converter. I’m reusing the stock 7-5/8 rear axle with new Richmond 3.23 gears, an Eaton Posi Performance differential, and a Moser C-clip eliminator kit with new axles.
A: The parts you’ve selected will work very well together.
The only suggestion I have is to use Edelbrock’s Performer intake (EDL-2116) instead of the Performer RPM. The power range of the Performer intake will work better with the camshaft you’ve chosen.
I definitely recommend adding a set of Summit Racing Aluminum heads or (Trickflow Aluminum heads) if you can afford the deference in price.. That is what I ran in (mine) and it was Awesome brother….
Smart money, buy a Blueprint engine. I have installed three of them. Two of them in S-10’s. I have the 355 roller/aluminum heads p/n BP35513-CT1. 390hp(actually dynoed at 406hp)You cannot build and Guarantee an engine that will compare dollar for dollar per horsepower. It runs GREAT. NO leaks,no noise, no worries. Key start! Think about it.
