The latest Summit Racing project is a Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck equipped with a Cummins 6.7L diesel engine.

But unlike a lot of project builds, the Summit Racing team didn’t start with a showroom-fresh vehicle here. Nope, this 2018 Ram 2500 is already a long haul, high mileage workhorse, with plenty of snow, rain, and dirt under its tires.

So the goal of this series is to show you how a few upgrades, some vital maintenance, and a little bit of elbow grease on a road-weary rig can be a smart alternative to buying an all new truck—and much easier on the wallet too.

As you’d expect on any truck with thousands of hard-working miles under its belt, you need to go through everything and do the normal maintenance. And that’s especially important when talking about a tow rig’s transmission and driveline, where the additional stresses of pulling a heavy trailer can have a big impact on service intervals.

And that’s what we see the Summit Racing folks do in episode four of its Ram Revamp project series. They pop both diff covers and drop the pan to check for any unusual or accelerated wear. Then the Ram 2500 gets fitted with a new set of ultra tough BD Diesel differential covers and a PPE transmission pan—sealed nicely with some LubeLocker gaskets, no less. And the job’s topped-off with some fresh transmission fluid and gear oil.

While this service isn’t anything exotic, it’ll go a long, long way towards ensuring the Ram can continue to rack up miles of workhorse towing duty. See it all transpire in this episode:
