Then friend, you’re in the right place. The fine folks over at Baer Brakes developed a handy video that’ll walk you through how to measure axle standoff (AKA brake space or brake standoff), so you can properly line up your caliper over the brake rotor.

(Axle standoff is also a spec most brake/axle companies will ask you for if you’re designing a custom setup.)
