Editor’s Note: As many of you now know, Joe Hunt, the face of Horsepower Wars’ Team Midwest Mayhem died September 28 in a racing accident while competing in the Coffeyville Street Drags in Coffeyville, KS.

Hunt was 27.

Because many Horsepower Wars episodes were filmed before Hunt’s death, he will appear in today’s and future videos we will share. Everyone affiliated with Horsepower Wars, including our friends at Summit Racing, and everyone here at OnAllCylinders extend our deepest condolences, and certainly our thoughts and prayers to the Hunt family, and his many friends.

You can read more about Hunt’s passing in this Dragzine article.

In Episode 5 of the $10K Drag Shootout, the four teams continue their engine builds with Joe Hunt’s Midwest Mayhem team being the first to fire their engine and dyno test it.

The team’s junkyard-pulled 4.8L iron block LS-based truck engine made 739 horsepower on early dyno test. After tuning and more boost was added, Midwest Mayhem’s Oldsmobile Cutlass-bound mill spit out an aggressive 850 hp.

Midwest Mayhem is comprised of experienced no-prep racers. They had their engine installed and fired a full day earlier than their three competitors.

It will be fun to see how the other three engines test in the next episode.

Defending champ Team Bigun is putting a 505 c.i.d. big block in a Ford Granada wagon.

Enemies Everywhere is stuffing a 6.0L iron block LS-based truck engine with LS3 heads and an 80mm turbo into a Gen. IV F-body Camaro.

And The Dream Team is preparing a 5.3L LS-based engine, also with an 80mm turbo for an SN95 Ford Mustang.
