For the first time ever, Ford F-150 owners will be able to choose a diesel engine option in 2018.

And not just any diesel, a Power Stroke® 3.0L turbodiesel V6 cranking out 250 horsepower and an impressive 440 ft.-lbs. of torque—torque that’s available at a very-usable 1,750 rpm.

F-150 owners who use their truck for towing duties will be delighted to hear Ford’s new turbodiesel V6 will be able to tow up to 11,400 pounds.

Perhaps the better news is that Ford says that this engine will be able to achieve 30 mpg in the 2018 F-150.

All told, the numbers add-up to best-in-class diesel horsepower, torque, towing, and payload.

This new diesel engine is a big deal for Ford.

The company has previously issued its Power Stroke diesel V8s in its F-Series Super Duty trucks, but has never offered a diesel engine in the half-ton F-150.

The diesel engine will be mated to the same 10-speed automatic transmission found in gasoline-powered F-150s, with a special calibration for the new motor’s power delivery.

The new Power Stroke will be available in two-wheel and four-wheel drive models, on the 2018 Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. You can get it with the SuperCrew configuration and either a  6-1/2′ or 5-1/2′ bed, or opt for the SuperCab with its 6-1/2′ bed.
