Speed Week at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats has been cancelled due to heavy rains leaving the densely packed salt under standing water and not enough time to dry.
Speed Week was scheduled to run Aug. 9-15.
The Southern California Timing Association announced the decision this week.
Under consideration is the possibility of extending the World Finals (currently scheduled to run Sept. 30-Oct. 3) into a full-week event to serve as an extension of Speed Week.
While we’re sad to lose one of our favorite motorsports events of the year, we do dig the photos of the underwater Salt Flats.
