Look, we’re all about stretching our project budget around here—but there are certain areas where pinching pennies can come back to haunt you.
Let’s explain: If you’ve browsed any popular online auction sites or one of those massive online/box-store retailers lately, you may noticed an influx of no-name auto parts that bear a striking resemblance to familiar products from trusted, reputable automotive brands.
…And yet, those clones have price tags that are alarmingly lower than those genuine originals.
Ever wonder why? The folks at Summit Racing did.
So, they bought a carburetor from an online auction site that was listed simply as a “1406” which, if you’re playing along at home, hints that it’s a copy of the trusty 600 cfm Edelbrock 1406 Performer carb—which has been around for decades. A close comparison of the photos confirmed that the no-name carb was indeed a fake knockoff of the Edelbrock 1406.
With both carbs still in the box, the Summit Racing video team headed to the dyno room at Trick Flow Specialties and let the engine tuning experts at Trick Flow do a straight-up direct performance comparison test between the two carburetors.
