A while back, the fine folks with the Akron Sports Car Club were having problems with the Farmtek Timing System they use in their autocross and track events. So they picked up the phone and called Summit Racing to find a solution—and the Summit Racing tech team turned to the radio experts at DX Engineering.

Well-known in Ham radio circles, DX Engineering carries a massive assortment of radio equipment, like antennas, cables, and connectors, and its staff is filled with experienced Amateur radio operators and RF engineers that are precisely skilled to handle this sort of thing.

And handle it they did. DX Engineering’s own Senior Engineering Manager, Cory Gibson wasted no time in developing two kits that significantly improve the wireless performance of the Akron Sports Car Club’s existing wireless race timing system.

The first kit (DXE-900M-ANT-5-2) includes a pair of upgraded antennas. The new antennas increase the range of the timing system transmitter so that its signal will have a better chance of reaching the receiver when compared to the short antennas originally packaged with the timing system—with no impact on the transmitter’s battery life either.

The second kit (DXE-900M-BPF) contains a special filter that removes any unwanted electrical noise, so the receiver can better “hear” the signal from the timing system’s transmitter eye. This is particularly beneficial if you set up your race course near an airport, military base, or factory/industrial complex with a lot of radio traffic or electrical noise flying around the air. (Heck, even a burger joint’s wireless drive-thru headsets can cause headaches here…)
