The latest Summit Racing project is a Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck equipped with a Cummins 6.7L diesel engine.

But unlike a lot of project builds, the Summit Racing team didn’t start with a showroom-fresh vehicle here. Nope, this 2018 Ram 2500 is already a long haul, high mileage workhorse, with plenty of snow, rain, and dirt under its tires.

So the goal of this series is to show you how a few upgrades, some vital maintenance, and a little bit of elbow grease on a road-weary rig can be a smart alternative to buying an all new truck—and much easier on the wallet too.

No doubt about it, a truck’s versatility starts with its cargo box. So the Summit Racing team spent plenty of time out back, adding an Access tonneau cover and a handy Adarac bed rack. This best-of-both-worlds solution gives the Ram some weather protection for gear in the box, while still allowing for larger stuff to be carried above the bed.

And to give folks an easier leg-up into the cab, the Ram 2500 gets a set of powered, retractable running boards from Aries.

Finally, a pair of extended K Source towing side mirrors helps the driver monitor what’s out back—good mirrors and visibility are an often overlooked, yet incredibly important facet of any competent tow rig. See it all come together in this installment of the Ram Revamp series.
