The latest Summit Racing project is a Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck equipped with a Cummins 6.7L diesel engine.

But unlike a lot of project builds, the Summit Racing team didn’t start with a showroom-fresh vehicle here. Nope, this 2018 Ram 2500 is already a long haul, high mileage workhorse, with plenty of snow, rain, and dirt under its tires.

So the goal of this series is to show you how a few upgrades, some vital maintenance, and a little bit of elbow grease on a road-weary rig can be a smart alternative to buying an all new truck—and much easier on the wallet too.

Bolting on a set of tough-looking off-road bumpers front and rear is far more than a cosmetic upgrade. A good set of bumpers adds critical protection on a workhorse tow rig—like the 2018 Ram 2500 truck featured in the Ram Revamp series.

More importantly, the best off-road bumper upgrades give you some ways to mount critical accessories like off-road lights and maybe even a winch. Better still, when properly installed, some off-road bumpers give you supplemental tow hook and shackle mounts that can help you (or someone else) out of a jam.

For all those reasons, the Summit Racing folks decided on a set of AEV Conversions front and rear bumpers. (The fact that they look super awesome is just icing on the cake here.)

Then, the Ram gets upgraded LED headlights and taillights from the lighting experts over at Morimoto. These new lights will be handy for both illuminating a darkened parking lot or jobsite and improving visibility as the rig racks up nighttime highway miles.

Follow along in this episode and you’ll see how installing a set of good off-road bumpers and lights is a pretty straightforward job, yet can have a big impact on a truck’s versatility and capability.
