The latest Summit Racing project is a Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck equipped with a Cummins 6.7L diesel engine.

But unlike a lot of project builds, the Summit Racing team didn’t start with a showroom-fresh vehicle here. Nope, this 2018 Ram 2500 is already a long-haul, high mileage workhorse, with plenty of snow, rain, and dirt under its tires.

So the goal of this series is to show you how a few upgrades, some vital maintenance, and a little bit of elbow grease on a road-weary rig can be a smart alternative to buying an all new truck—and much easier on the wallet too.

So far during this truck build series, the Summit Racing folks have spent a lot of time on towing—and for good reason. When it’s returned to its owner, this Ram will be used as a workhorse tow rig. So, to make sure the truck and the cargo arrive safely to their destination, in this episode, the 2018 Ram gets a trailer brake controller.

The Summit Racing towing experts walk you through how to pick the best trailer brake controller for your rig. They examine some popular trailer brake controller models, and give you some handy features to look for when making a decision.
