If you thought the NASCAR L.A. Coliseum event last winter was cool, wait until you hear this:

NASCAR is running a Cup Series Points Race on the streets of the Windy City next year.

Yup, NASCAR is heading to Sweet Home Chicago, Illinois as part of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend of Competition and Entertainment in Downtown Chicago on July 1 and 2, 2023. The NASCAR race will happen on July 2, and will be preceded by an IMSA race on July 1.

This is a first-ever NASCAR Cup Series street course race, and the proposed track layout will have the NASCAR Next Gen Cars racing alongside Lake Michigan, Grant Park, and historic Buckingham Fountain.

Interestingly, this will be the second time Chicago has hosted a NASCAR Cup Series Race, as Soldier Field welcomed stock cars to its track back in 1956.

Tickets for the Chicago race will go on sale later this year.

If you’re familiar with the city layout, you’ll notice that the proposed track comes close to Soldier Field too, home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears—and a 1956 NASCAR Cup Race. (Image/NASCAR)
