Virginia is for racers! And the 2002 NHRA Virginia Nationals proved that once again with a weekend full of rivalries and neck-and-neck action at Virginia Motorsports Park. There was no Pro Stock class racing this week, but Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock Motorcycle all had some serious competition. So let’s see how it all shook out in this week’s NHRA Wrap-Up.

2022 NHRA Virginia Nationals Top Fuel Results

Brittany Force rolled into Virginia with the Top Fuel points lead…and she took it with her when she left. Paired up with last year’s champ Steve Torrence in the Finals, Force ripped off a scorching 3.770 second, 334.07 mph pass to top Torrence’s 3.781 @ 326.24. (If you’re keeping track at home, despite being second in the points standings, Torrence hasn’t grabbed a Wally since his Championship-capping win in Pomona, California last year.)

2022 NHRA Virginia Nationals Funny Car Results

After making it to the 4-Wide Finals in North Carolina, Robert Hight was able to cross the beams first in Virginia. And he did it against longtime rival Matt Hagan. In an almost wheel-to-wheel run, Hight pulled out a victory with a 3.907 second, 328.86 pass, eclipsing Hagan’s 3.948 @ 327.59 effort. The pair are now sitting in the first and second slots in the Funny Car points standings.

2022 NHRA Virginia Nationals Pro Stock Motorcycle Results

It’s fair to say that Matt Smith and Steve Johnson are having a bit of a row, particularly since Johnson’s victory in Houston. So suffice it to say, we were pretty pumped to see the two face off again at the Finals in Virginia. This time though, an edge off the line gave Smith a razor-thin lead that he held onto down the track, resulting in a 6.842 second, 198.35 mph run—the holeshot win bested Johnson’s 6.786 @ 198.06.
