Following similar announcements by other automotive manufacturers like GM, Volvo, and Jaguar, Fiat CEO Olivier François says Fiat is quickly moving to an all-electric model lineup.

“We are exploring the territory of sustainable mobility for all: this is our greatest project,” François revealed. “Between 2025 and 2030, our product line-up will gradually become electric-only.”

The announcement was preceded by the earlier news that Fiat’s New 500 will be exclusively an electric vehicle—there is no internal combustion engine counterpart.

Both the EV transition and the 2030 deadline aren’t that surprising, given Fiat’s presence in Europe and other global markets that are pushing manufacturers to increase electrification efforts. (The EU is targeting a 30-million zero-emission vehicle benchmark by 2030.)

Here in the US, it’ll be interesting to see if Fiat’s already narrow model line will get even slimmer. Base 500 models are no longer available and the only 2021 model currently listed is the 500X. Perhaps we’ll see an electrified version of the Miata-based 124 Spider?
