Mopar announced the arrival of its new 1,000-horsepower Hellephant 426 HEMI crate engine to great fanfare last October at the SEMA Show.

To be precise, company officials unveiled the Hellephant at a 4:26 pm press conference (because Mopar). Now they’ve finally unveiled the price–on 4/26.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get the engine for $426, or even $4,260. Mopar opted to forego the clever marketing tactics as it pertains to price and instead dropped a $29,995 price tag on it. That’s about $29.99-per-horsepower if you’re scoring at home.

In case you missed the original story, the Hellephant engine hits the 1,000 horsepower mark via bulked-up displacement, with four inches of stroke and bore specs at 4.125 inches. An improved supercharger with a high-efficiency rotor is mounted on an all-aluminum block. The complete engine assembly includes a water pump, flywheel, front sump oil pan, supercharger with throttle body, fuel injectors, and coil packs.

The first-ever 1,000 horsepower crate engine assembly offered by an OEM can be paired with the Mopar Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI Engine Kit for relatively simple plug-and-play by experienced installers, Mopar officials say.

Close to 1,000 people have reportedly signed up to purchase the Hellephant…would you?
