Edelbrock teased us with new diesel application-specific cylinder heads at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV, but warned everyone that it would be a while before they would be available.

As of 2019 Q1, Edelbrock’s new diesel cylinder heads are finally here.

Edelbrock designed these heads for power and durability by including fully nitrided, Stellite faced intake and exhaust valves for high strength and hardness. Then Edelbrock improved the swirl and flow to generate more power with lower exhaust gas temperatures.

The Edelbrock Duramax diesel cylinder heads have higher flow ratings than stock, but can be bolted directly on as a factory replacement. It increases flow by at least 20 percent and cooling capacity by 40 percent, according to Edelbrock.

Edelbrock used a technique called Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) to create the heads.

Per Edelbrock’s info sheet, “this aerospace process heats raw aluminum castings up to 900° F in a pressurized chamber (up to 30,000 psi) and compresses the casting to remove any trapped gases and internal porosity. During this process the casting is compressed to eliminate these imperfections. The result is an incredibly strong and dense sand casting that has three times the fatigue life and nearly the consistency of billet aluminum. For the engine builders and racers, HIP-processed cylinder heads provide less chance of failure due to fatigue. They also provide a better, smoother machined surface finish when CNC port and chamber work is applied.”

There are two part numbers:

1. EDL-79029 – Edelbrock Duramax Diesel Cylinder Heads for 6.6L LB7 (2001-2004 applications)

2. EDL – 79119 – Edelbrock Duramax Diesel Cylinder Heads for 6.6L LML (2011-2016 applications)
