When it was announced that Englishtown, New Jersey’s Old Bridge Township Raceway Park Dragstrip was closing, drag race fans began wondering what would happen to the NHRA’s Summer Nationals event scheduled to be held there this year.

The NHRA just answered.

There will be a new event added to the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series calendar, the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond, VA.

The NHRA Virginia Nationals will occur over the same weekend (June 8-10, 2018) previously held by the Summer Nationals in Englishtown.

With the Englishtown race essentially replaced, the NHRA calendar is now back up to a 24-event series.

In addition to Top Fuel, Pro Stock, and Funny Car, the 2018 NHRA Virginia Nationals will host Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Mod classes.

Virginia Motorsports Park was one of the several tracks vying for an NHRA-sanctioned event. The track had previously hosted the NHRA’s Virginia Nationals event back in 2009.
