Editor’s Note: In 2015, we looked back at the best aftermarket parts of all time, commemorated 60 years of small block Chevy performance, and went Back to the Future to celebrate the iconic movie’s anniversary. We said goodbye to Roscoe P. Coltrane and hello to a whole new generation of Camaros. Jeff Gordon retired. Volkswagen cheated. And BIGFOOT had a midlife crisis. Yep, there was plenty to write home about–or at least write about. Here are the top automotive events we covered in 2015:
The annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas is the automotive aftermarket’s premiere event, and 2015 was no different. There were countless show cars, auto enthusiasts, industry news items, and exciting new product launches.
Our team captured videos and photos, and compiled a bunch of news and feature stories from the Las Vegas Convention Center, and we’ve been sharing them since.
The Summit Racing brain trust relocated Super Summit to Norwalk, OH’s Summit Motorsports Park, and even with some short-lived, damaging weather, the event felt like a winner. Lots of cars, lots of BIGFOOT, lots of racing, lots of fun. If you’re not planning to be anywhere near Norwalk on June 3-4 in 2016, you might want to change your plans.
Imagine Super Summit. Then, imagine it bigger.
That’s kind of what the Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama is—one of the biggest car show events of the year, a showcase of virtually anything with a motor. The 2016 show is slated for April 16-17 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, GA. Consider being there.
Drag Week was amazing this year just like it always is, with ridiculous elapsed times under ridiculous conditions. Larry Larson laid down an official 6.16-second quarter-mile pass in 2014 in a Chevy S-10, and this year Jeff Lutz, during a test and tune run, set the new street car standard with a 6.05-second pass in a Pro Mod 1969 street-legal Camaro.
Hot August Nights is a nearly week-long hot-rodding extravaganza in Reno, NV and the city’s surrounding towns, and it’s a wonder to behold.
If you’ve never seen classic cars, hot rods, and many of the world’s finest customs take over an entire city before, you’re going to want to remedy that soon.
Hot August Nights is always one of the top events in the automotive universe, and the 2015 show was no exception.
