Back in 1986, when Hot August Nights got its start, planning wasn’t all that critical.
- Hot August Nights wasn’t even all about classic cars back then. They were a sideshow attraction.
- It was 1986. It’s a scientifically proven fact that time moves faster now than it did back in ’86.* In 2013, with Hot August Nights just two months out, we have to treat it like it’s four days from now just to get our ducks in a row.

Hot August Nights 2013 kicks off in South Lake Tahoe, CA on August 2 and wraps up August 11 in Reno, NV.

Hot August Nights Official Parade
The annual automotive trek through downtown Reno is the quintessential Hot August Nights experience. Lot of lights. Lot of people. Lot of hot rods.
Check your schedule, secure your spot along Virginia Street, and enjoy the excellence.
Barrett-Jackson Auction and Show-and-Shine Barrett-Jackson Cup™ Competition
An extra bonus this year is that Barrett-Jackson has joined the proceedings, partnering with Hot August Nights to bring perhaps the world’s most-popular car auction to Reno on August 8-10. Moreover, the gang at Barrett-Jackson is introducing the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup™—a show-and-shine competition with a $40,000 prize purse. Whoever wins Best in Show will take home $20,000—which is twice what this year’s Ridler Award winner got.
Hot August Nights Drag Races
This year’s Hot August Nights Drag Races will be held in the west parking lot of John Ascuaga’s Nugget (on the corner of Nugget Avenue and 14th Street). They are scheduled from 6 pm-midnight, August 7-10. The August 7 event will be filmed by SPEED.

Big Boy Toy Store
The Big Boy Toy Store is hosted by the Silver Legacy and El Dorado casinos at the Reno Events Center August 7-10, from 10 am-5 pm. This year’s Big Boy Toy Store features more than 55,000 square feet of automotive nirvana from more than 320 parts vendors.
It’s free to get in. But you might want to bring your wallet, anyway.
Summit Racing Cruise-In
Our friends at Summit Racing host cruise-ins every year during Hot August Nights at their Sparks, NV retail location. Just so we’re clear, spending time with lots of classic cars and shopping at Summit Racing is almost never a bad idea. In fact, not even almost. It’s never a bad idea.
The Hot August Nights Automotive Swap Meet & Nostalgia Fair
More collector cars. More than 700 vendors. More than 70,000 square feet at the Reno Livestock Event Center. We don’t anticipate any actual livestock being there. Unless you count the ponies.
Feel like buying a new hot rod? Of course you do. If that’s in the financial cards, this is going to be another great place to shop around for a new toy to drive or trailer home.
[important]Music is also a huge part of the Hot August Nights experience. There is live music every night in multiple places. On August 10, Tower of Power is going to be at Victorian Square doing this little ditty. You’re welcome.[/important]
