One of the most recognized names—and certainly one of the sport’s biggest personalities—in professional drag racing just announced he’s stepping back from driving duties.

Yes folks, John Force will no longer be piloting a Funny Car in NHRA competition.

Force is still recovering from a catastrophic crash at 2024 NHRA Virginia Nationals, which undoubtedly played a role in the decision. That said, during his retirement announcement, Force made it clear that he will continue to guide the John Force Racing Team for the foreseeable future and wouldn’t be straying too far from the racetrack.

In addition to being a 16 time NHRA Funny Car world champ, Force is also the patriarch of the Force family racing dynasty that includes Ashley, Courtney, and Top Fuel record holder and multiple World Champion Brittany Force—who recently announced her own retirement from driving, with plans to start a family.

It’s an understatement to describe Force as a fan favorite, and his wide grin and boisterous personality will continue to be welcome sights at race tracks all over the country.

While his exit from the cockpit marks the end of an era for John Force Racing, we’re confident that John will continue to make his presence felt in the professional motorsports community.
