As we make our way west for another SEMA Show, we’re taking a sneak peek at some new products being unveiled at the event. And one that caught our eye in particular is the clever Evac-U-Filter from Baxter Performance.
This wafer-thin oil filter adapter is made from precision-machined billet aluminum to fit snugly against the spin-on filter mount, so that it’s sandwiched between the engine and the filter. Once installed, you use the Evac-U-Filter’s Schrader Valve to attach your air compressor and send compressed air through the engine’s oil system.
That means all the old oil (potentially including grit, particulates, and sludge) gets pushed through the engine’s oil passages and down into the pan, where it can be safely drained and removed. The air will also purge the oil pump pickup tube and screen, which is something you can’t really do any other way, without removing the entire oil pan.
As an added bonus, purging your oil system like this means you won’t have any messy oil seeping out of the spin-on filter port when you remove the filter—something particularly helpful if you’ve got a filter mounted vertically in a hard-to-reach spot (cough*Subaru*cough).
