Well, it looks like that new engine will be here in 2027.
That’s not all either. While that earlier announcement revealed that the new small block V8 will be built in Flint, Michigan, this new GM Press Release says that the sixth generation small block V8 will also be assembled at its fabled Tonawanda engine plant—the same factory that handles the outgoing Gen. 5 LT V8 production.
The Tonawanda plant in Buffalo, New York has a storied history of creating some of the General’s most fierce engines—including the legendary Chevy Big Blocks of the 1960s. (Image/Jeff Smith)
Buried in that GM press release published earlier this week is this little gem:
“Tonawanda Propulsion, represented by UAW Local 774, will continue to produce the fifth generation of GM’s V-8 engine while the plant prepares for the next generation’s start of production in 2027.”
Better still, GM is investing (*raises pinky finger*) 888 million dollars into its Tonawanda Propulsion Plant to help prepare the facility for this new small block.
If you’re keeping track at home, that (*raises pinky finger again*) 888 million dollars is the largest single investment General Motors has ever made into an engine plant. So it’s clear the General is taking this new internal combustion engine program very, very seriously.
And it looks like we’ll see how seriously this engine will perform in 2027.

Very glad to hear this.
Any idea what the displacement(s) will be?
Speculation on fuel options for it? I’m thinking Hydrogen & gasoline
Naturally aspirated, turbocharged or supercharged?
Not much has been revealed yet, though most folks are speculating that it’ll be a pushrod V8, and come in a few versions – to fill GM’s truck lineup and, hopefully, the Corvette (which might also result in some forced induction applications too.)
LET DO THIS ,KEEP SMALL BLOCK LIVE!!
Hopefully I can afford one and it will adapt to my C-3 (‘78) Corvette??
