Saturday Night Live celebrated its 40th anniversary last night.

Over the years, there have a been a lot of SNL characters (like this guy) and skits (like this one) that we’ve liked, but none speaks to us better than this vintage segment entitled Mechanics Bedtime Story. Featuring Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner, it’s from the first season of 1975-76 and reminds us why that original cast will always be best (in our humble opinions).

Not surprisingly, this particular skit didn’t make any of the retrospectives during the anniversary show. It’s a car thing. Most people don’t understand. But you will. Check out the video and prepare to drift off to sleep with small blocks and 318s and rear differentials dancing in your head.
