Dodge has announced that its 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will deliver 707 horsepower.

We’ll repeat that: 7-0-7.

We were originally and conservatively told to expect around 600 horsepower, but Dodge has officially announced this week that the Hellcat will churn out 707 horsepower and a pavement-grinding 650 ft.-lbs. of torque. That makes it more powerful than the last Corvette ZR1 and new Corvette Z06. That makes it more potent than the Viper’s V10. That puts it in the same power category as supercars from Ferrari and Lamborghini.

And that makes it the most powerful factory muscle car ever.

You can read the full story on the supercharged 6.2L-powered Hellcat in this New York Daily News article. As the story points out, horsepower ratings were routinely underrated during the muscle car era of the 1960s. But the Hellcat holds its own in any era and certainly brings more power to the table than the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and Camaro ZL1.
