Rejoice, California hot rodders—MSD was recently granted Executive Order Number D-722 from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) making the Atomic Fuel Injection System (part numbers MSD-2900 and MSD-2910) legal for use on 1987 and older GM passenger cars and trucks that came from the factory with a carbureted V8 engine. According to MSD, the Atomic EFI system is the only California-legal aftermarket EFI system available for these vehicles.

This means you guys with carbureted Camaros, Malibus, Monte Carlos, and pickups can enjoy the improved drivability, better part-throttle acceleration, smoother idle, and extra fuel mileage an Atomic EFI system can provide while staying smog-legal.

According to MSD, thorough testing confirmed the Atomic EFI system did not reduce the effectiveness of applicable vehicle pollution control systems, earning an exemption from the prohibitions of Section 27156 of the California Vehicle Code for 1987 and older GM passenger cars and pickups originally equipped with a V8 engine and carburetor. MSD will supply an information label with the E.O. Number and details that must be affixed on your vehicle for inspection purposes.

The CARB Executive Order also means the Atomic EFI system provides “reasonable basis” for satisfying the anti-tampering requirements of the Federal Clean Air Act. That means the systems are legal for use in the remaining 49 states of our fair land.

So what are you waiting for? Enjoy better performance and keep the smog police happy too with an MSD Atomic EFI System!
