A parking lot is a parking lot is a parking lot—unless it’s the Summit Racing parking lot. On any given day or time, the lot outside a Summit Racing store can turn into an impromptu mini car show, depending on who’s stopped by the store. Each Wednesday, we’ll share our parking lot find of the week—another benefit of being Powered by Summit Racing Equipment.

When you think of classic American pickups, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

For us and many others, it’s the Ford F1 pickup–specifically the 1948 F1.

Back in the day, the venerable F1 workhorse was a great choice for hauling hay, delivering milk, or giving rides to old ex-cons in search of redemption. After its supporting role in 1994’s Shawshank Redemption (hey, we’re car guys so we notice these things), the 1948 F1 showed up in Summit Racing’s parking lot near Akron, OH.

Ford guys know the 1948 and 1949 models were virtually the same. The main difference was the wheel design–the 1948 models had black wheel rims; the 1949 version had rims that matched the body color. Since this one has aftermarket wheels, it’s hard to verify the year.

We’re giving credit to the original F-Series half-ton: the 1948 F1.
