Las Vegas, Nevada – It’s rare that we come across a product that can address an issue faced by seemingly every facet of the gearhead spectrum—but that’s precisely what the folks at Shop 48 have come up with.
A strong gas smell emanating from the fuel system in a vintage classic vehicle, race car, off-roader, hot rod, boat, or side by side can really put a damper on your fun. That’s especially true if the gas odor creeps into the clothing, sandwiches, and camping chairs packed in your race trailer—or worse yet, the stench enters the living area of your home through an attached garage door.
If all this sounds…err….smells familiar, then check out Shop 48 Vapor Trappers.

What is a Vapor Trapper?
The Vapor Trapper is a high-quality billet aluminum charcoal vapor canister specifically designed to reduce/eliminate fuel odors from vehicles that have fuel tanks that vent to atmosphere—a common design often found in older, vintage vehicles and racing applications. (The Shop 48 folks tell us that these cans are equally suited for both carbureted and EFI applications too.)
In fact, Shop 48 offers a range of charcoal canisters in various sizes and configurations that can easily be plumbed into virtually any fuel system to trap and absorb harmful fuel vapors, preventing them from escaping the vehicle.
In other words, put one of these Vapor Trappers in your car, truck, dune buggy, or whatever, and your garage will stop reeking of gasoline.

How to Install a Vapor Trapper in Your Vehicle
The Vapor Trapper is mounted to the vehicle using a pair of 2-1/2 inch clamps, in line with your fuel tank vent line. The Shop 48 team recommends using a -6 AN O-ring Boss fitting (barb fittings with a rubber fuel hose or a threaded AN fitting for a more custom installation) to plumb it into your system.
This next part is important: Make sure to install the Vapor Trapper, or at least the inlet line, far above the fuel tank to avoid liquid fuel getting into the filter. When raw fuel gets dumped into the charcoal media, it drastically reduces its ability to absorb and mitigate vapors. (That said, if that does happen accidentally, reach out to the Vapor Trapper folks and they’ll be able to recharge your charcoal canister.)
