For certain vehicle maintenance and upgrade jobs, Summit Racing offers parts combos put together by its own in-house performance experts. Each part is vetted, tested, and proven to perfectly complement the other components in the combo—that way, you won’t have any surprises when it’s time to install your parts and hit the road.
This time around, we’re giving you a closer look at the Summit Racing MDS Delete Kits for the Gen. III Hemi.

A few years after its release, engineers over at Chrysler added a fuel-saving feature to certain engines in the Gen. III Hemi family. Dubbed the “Multiple Displacement System” (or “MDS” if you’re into the brevity thing), this system essentially deactivated certain cylinders to conserve fuel while the engine was under a light load—like causal highway cruising.
While effective, there are some potential performance and reliability issues surrounding the Gen. III Hemi MDS and, as a result, some gearheads are inclined to disable or remove the system entirely.
We won’t get into the nitty-gritty of the job, but you can read all about the MDS removal process here:
How to Eliminate the Multiple Displacement System in Your Gen. III Hemi
What we will talk about however, is a series of MDS Removal Kits created by the Hemi engine experts over at Summit Racing.
These kits are pretty handy because, if you read the article above, you’ll discover that disabling the Multiple Displacement System in your Gen. 3 Hemi requires you to remove a few engine components and replace them with their non-MDS counterparts.
These MDS Delete Kits from Summit Racing spare you the parts-matching guesswork, and contain pretty much all the essential pieces you’ll need to finish the MDS removal job—the right way. That means you’re not just disabling the MDS (which could still cause reliability issues down the road), you’re completely removing and replacing some of the potentially problematic parts associated with the system.
At the heart of each Summit Racing MDS Delete Kit is a new camshaft, complemented by the appropriate lifters, springs, plugs, gaskets, and seals to finish the job. This video below will explain it a bit more:
Summit Racing offers a handful of these kits, depending on your specific cam choice and whether or not your particular Hemi engine uses variable valve timing (VVT). Click below to see the options.
