For certain vehicle maintenance and upgrade jobs, Summit Racing offers parts combos put together by its own in-house performance experts. Each part is vetted, tested, and proven to perfectly complement the other components in the combo—that way, you won’t have any surprises when it’s time to install your parts and hit the road.
This time around, we’re giving you a closer look at the Summit Racing VVT Delete Combos.

Some—though not all—GM LS engines incorporate a feature called variable valve timing, or VVT if you’re short on time.
In a nutshell, variable valve timing allows the engine to advance timing at low RPM to improve idle quality and low end torque, then as engine speed increases, it can retard ignition timing for better top-end power.
Despite its advantages, many gearheads opt to remove or disable the VVT feature—particularly if they’re swapping-in a big, high performance cam.
We have an entire article dedicated to the why and how of the VVT disabling process, and you can read it here:
How to Delete Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on an LS Engine
You can read-up on the entire job in the article above, but essentially, the process for eliminating VVT on an LS engine involves removing the VVT-specific parts and replacing them with non-VVT components, namely the cam sprocket and timing cover.
For that reason, the Summit Racing technical experts created a series of kits that include pretty much everything you’ll need to eliminate the VVT system on your specific LS engine (if so-equipped).
The kits come in two flavors:
- CMB-09-0027 – Summit Racing VVT Delete Kit for 3-Bolt Cams
- CMB-09-0028 – Summit Racing VVT Delete Kit for 1-Bolt Cams
The kits come with a new cam sprocket and timing cover with cam sensor, along with a new damper bolt and cam bolts. And since these combos were put together by Summit Racing’s own LS engine experts, you won’t have any surprises when you install the kit.
All told, if you’re thinking about disabling the variable valve timing capability of your GM LS engine, we highly recommend reading the article linked to above, and then when it comes time to do the job, check out the Summit Racing VVT Delete combos to save yourself some parts-matching guesswork.
