When walking through the halls of the 2024 SEMA Show, one thing we noticed was the prevalence of Gen. III Hemi swaps. A few years ago, seeing a modern Hemi stuffed in a vintage Mopar (…or AMC…or a Kaiser) used to be a rare curiosity—now it’s delightfully common.

…Which we couldn’t be happier about, by the way.

The folks at RaceTec Pistons must’ve noticed that trend too, because they’ve developed a new piston tailored to the the unique design of the Gen. III Hemi engine.

For instance, the accommodations for the Hemi’s valve layout means that there’s very little space between the first ring groove and the top of the piston. RaceTec found a way to design around that, and offer a super strong piston head that’ll take some big power.

In a similar vein, RaceTec also noticed how many of you gearheads were pulling junkyard LS motors and then stuffing them with incredible amounts of boost via a turbo or supercharger—again, totally cool in our book, but RaceTec now offers a specially designed LS engine piston that’ll handle that extra cylinder pressure without turning to goo.

We stopped by the RaceTec Pistons booth at the aforementioned 2024 SEMA Show to get the skinny on both of these new piston designs. Get a full rundown in the video below, then you can find the best RaceTec pistons for your build here at Summit Racing.
