Last year’s Dodge HEMI Challenge winner Stephen Yantus III didn’t make it past the Semis this year, but his 1968 Plymouth Barracuda did take home a “Best Appearing Car” award. (Image/Stellantis)

The NHRA returned to its Indianapolis, Indiana roots over Labor Day weekend for the 2021 U.S. Nationals, bringing with it top-tier NHRA action, along with other special events—namely the Dodge HEMI Challenge, the longest running, continuous specialty race in NHRA history. This year Steve Comella took his 1968 Plymouth Barracuda to the Winner’s Circle, just edging out four-time Hemi Challenge champ Jim Daniels Jr. in his 1968 Dodge Dart.

And as you’d imagine, the rest of the racing was fierce all weekend long and included a surprise victory from a veteran racer as the NHRA Regular Season came to a close. Read all about it in this week’s NHRA Wrap-Up.
