Despite having dozens of options, selecting the right power inverter for your campground or jobsite isn’t that tough. This video will show you the basics. (Image/Redarc Electronics’ YouTube Channel)

Let’s skip a few thousand word dissertation on the basics of electricity and just say that, for brevity’s sake, there are two types of electrical power.

Alternating current (AC) is what comes out of your home’s wall outlet. Direct current (DC) is what comes out of your vehicle’s accessory port (or cigarette lighter socket for us olds).

But folks who do a lot of overlanding, camping, or remote jobsite work often have a bunch of electrical accessories and tools—which also means they probably need both AC and DC power sources.

That’s where a power inverter comes in. It takes the DC power coming from your vehicle’s battery and converts it to household AC power.

Sounds simple enough, but there are many different types of inverters out there, designed to meet a wide range of electrical power demands.

That’s why we liked this video from the electrical power pros with Redarc. In just under two minutes, it’ll help you understand what an inverter does, how to assess your specific power requirements, and how to choose an inverter that best fits your needs.

It’s a must-watch for camping and overlanding enthusiasts, and equally helpful if you’re building a mobile work rig for your jobsite.
