Fiat-Chrysler re-introduced the Jeep Waggoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer, as well as the new 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in electric hybrid model, on Thursday.
In the new Wrangler 4xe (pronounced “four by E) we have the next evolution of Jeep’s expansion into hybrid vehicles, in the Wagoneer, we are witnessing the rebirth of a vehicle last produced in 1991.
When the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL debuted, it offered a 48V mild hybrid system in the U.S. market on its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder option.
The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be in showrooms in mid-2021, presumably as model-year 2022 vehicles.
The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be priced as full-sized luxury SUVs, starting at $60,000 in the United States. They will offer three-row seating, and sit on a chassis similar to the RAM 1500 pickup.
The new hybrid Wrangler is slated to go on sale early next year. The 4xe Wrangler will make 375 horsepower and 470 foot-pounds of torque.
The Wrangler 4xe’s gas-electric hybrid powertrain offers 25 miles of all-electric driving range, and an estimated 50 mpge.
