Video: How to Determine What’s Causing a Spongy Brake Pedal

Our friends at Wilwood Disc Brakes are always getting calls from customers asking about spongy brakes or any type of brake pedal feel that doesn’t seem right.

There’s a common procedure that Wilwood’s brake experts ask their customers to do, and in today’s video, Mike from Wilwood is going to demonstrate it with explanations for why.

One of the things Mike emphasizes most is METHODICALLY depressing the brake pedal when checking for air.

When you slowly, methodically pump the brake pedal—once, then twice, then hold it down the third time—you’re able to determine whether the master cylinder is holding up (it is if the pedal firmness remains on the third pump), and whether you have air in your brake lines.
