Update: Instead of a Hellcat, Jeep gave us the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and it’s awesome. (Image/Jeep)

We tend to stay away from rumors and stick to the actual news on this site.

For a rumored Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat, we’ll make an exception.

Because it’s a Jeep.

Because it’s got a Hellcat.

And because it’s being reported by a reputable source like Car and Driver.

According to Car and Driver, the new 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is coming later this year, and it will be available with the supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V8 of Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger fame. This Hellcat option will be an even more muscled-up alternative to the 6.4L V8 currently offered in the Cherokee SRT. A possible stumbling block, though, is bolstering the Grand Cherokee’s driveline to handle the Hellcat’s 707 horsepower and 650 ft.-lbs. of torque. The end result could be a slightly detuned version of the Hellcat motor.

We know the Trackhawk label will replace the SRT moniker, which now belongs solely to the Dodge brand. But details on the Hellcat option remain murky, so stay tuned for more information as it’s released.
