Chevrolet’s new 2014 SS—Chevy’s new rear-wheel drive performance sedan set to release in the fourth quarter—has been given a sticker price of $44,470.

This is Chevy’s first rear-wheel drive performance sedan since the 1996 Impala SS.

The car will be powered by a slightly tamed-down version of the new LT1 small block—a 6.2L V8 that will make 415 horsepower and 415 foot-pounds of torque.

No manual transmission is available for the 2014 model year. The SS engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. With the 3.27 rear axle ratio, the car will go 0-60 in five seconds, Chevy officials say.

The public was introduced to the Chevy SS early this year when NASCAR unveiled its Generation-6 redesign, which includes the SS, along with Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry.

The question on the table is this: How to do you feel about spending $45,000 or more on Chevy’s first performance sedan in 17 years? Is it worth it?
