Color Us Charmed: 2013 SRT Viper Has Bite—And We Like It

When Chrysler Group unveiled the 2013 SRT Viper (Chrysler dropped the Dodge name off the new supercar) at the New York Auto Show this month, reviews from the peanut gallery were mixed.

From the “I can’t afford this” crowd to the “Why don’t they just introduce a 40-mile-per-gallon minivan?” crowd, the new car has its detractors.

We’re not among them.

The 2013 SRT is still unmistakably a Viper. The design tweaks look good. And under the hood? Can we just say: Rawr.

The all-aluminum 8.4-liter V-10 dishes out 640 horses and 600 foot-pounds of torque, which Chrysler says is the most torque of any naturally aspirated (meaning, no turbo) production sports car in the world.

Here are some photos of the new Viper:

As with virtually anything, tastes vary. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Without getting behind the wheel and driving at speeds that flirt with legality, it’s hard to say for sure what we really think of the new Viper. But, initial reaction? We’re charmed.

What do you think of the new Viper?
