This is a close-up of a couple of spark plugs that indicated trouble in the cylinder. You can clearly see those black specs on the center electrodes, but perhaps what is more troubling is the fact that the ground electrodes are melted. The fix for this engine was less timing (which reduces heat in the chamber), a non-projected nose spark plug, and a higher octane fuel.
