After 26 events across 12 cities, 2018’s Toughest Monster Truck Tour has a new champion: the famous BIGFOOT® Monster Truck.

Piloted by driver Larry Swim, BIGFOOT overcame a large points deficit early in the season to claw its way back to the championship title—winning 16 races out of 22 in the process.

In the final event of the season, BIGFOOT was clinging to a razor-thin six-point lead. Despite running without a sway bar, thanks to a mount that broke earlier in the day, Swim was able to drive the monster truck well enough to fight off the competition and secure the championship.

When the smoke cleared, BIGFOOT and Swim had held-on to win by a mere two points—out of 1,100 possible in the entire series.

Swim had this to say about his championship season.

“Thank you to everyone at Team BIGFOOT and at the Toughest Monster Truck Tour for the great shows. It was a rough season, but we pulled it off. There were a lot of great teams and everyone always helped out when needed. It was so close that it came down to the very end – never give up, we didn’t! Thanks to Summit Racing EquipmentFirestone, and all of our other great sponsors. And, of course, thank you so much to my wife Susan for letting me live my dream.”

OnAllCylinders’ intrepid man-on-the-streets David Fuller caught up with Larry Swim at the recent Atlanta Motorama to chat about the championship and other things related to giant car-crushing monster trucks.
