The much-anticipated Dodge Demon will run on 100+ high-octane fuel usually reserved for dedicated race cars—a first for a factory production car! Of course, if you’d prefer to run on good old regular 91 octane, a button on the dashboard will let you do that, too.

Here’s how it works:

Earlier, Dodge announced that each 2018 Challenger SRT Demon would come with a Demon Crate filled with tools and go-fast parts. This crate will include a new Powertrain Control Module, which is calibrated for premium unleaded race gas, and a new center console with a switch that allows you to toggle between standard and race gas fuel settings.

Once installed by the owner, the PCM and console allows you to run the higher octane fuel. The high octane setting permits the 6.2L HEMI to run more aggressive ignition timing without fear of detonation, and the Demon’s dual fuel pumps and bigger injectors (the Hellcat has only one fuel pump) delivering higher fuel flow. Dodge promises this will drastically reduce elapsed times.

According to Dodge, the race gas mode won’t activate if the octane is too low, so mixing the 91 and 100+ octane gas won’t hurt the engine.
